Columbia SIPA’s 2023 Application for MIA/MPA/MPA-DP is officially live!

We strongly recommend providing yourself with ample time to prepare a complete application that best represents your academic abilities. To help you get started, we encourage you to consider the following steps:

  • Read and review the application requirements thoroughly: When you open up the application, we have provided a lot of information to make the process as simple as possible. We also have additional resources like the FAQ, what we look for in an applicant, and many blog posts to help you complete your application.
  • Know your deadlines: SIPA does not have rolling admission deadlines and depending if you are applying for Spring 2023 or Fall 2023, you should be aware of when to apply by. I have included the deadlines below:
Program Term Early Action Fellowship Consideration Final Deadline
MIA, MPA only Spring 2023 Oct. 15, 2022 (includes fellowship consideration)
MIA, MPA, MPA-DP Fall 2023 Nov. 1, 2022 Dec. 20, 2022 Feb. 5, 2023 (admissions decision only)
  • Connect with SIPA: We are hosting both virtual and in-person information sessions this fall! Information sessions are designed to provide an overview of SIPA, our academics, student life, and admission process. If you have specific questions, I recommend you sign up for a session. Additionally, you can meet a member of our admissions staff on the road at the events we are traveling to regionally.
  • Communicate effectively: PA Rachel recently wrote a blog post on communicating with the Office of Admission and Financial Aid. Please review this information!
  • Create a financing strategy: The best time to begin a financing strategy is now. It’s important to do this in tandem with your admissions application as many fellowships will require similar materials. Additionally, we post upcoming external scholarship deadlines monthly and our most recent external scholarship list can be found here. Check out this funding database we’ve compiled.
  • Subscribe to the Admissions Blog: We are always promoting our blog but the content available on here has proven to help and advise many students on the application! For example, PA Catherine wrote a blog post on actionable items you can do to prep your application, this is a great way to get started on curating the materials you need to start the application.
  • Be yourself!: If there’s one piece of advice we recommend the most, it is to be yourself in the admission process. We want to get to know you and why you’ll be an amazing fit at SIPA. Don’t lose sight of your authentic self when you’re filling out your application!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office directly with questions you may have regarding your application at sipa_admissions@columbia.edu

Best of luck!
